Lippmann Photography: A Signal Processing Perspective

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lippmann (or interferential) photography is the first and only analog method that can capture full color spectrum of a scene in single take. This technique, invented more than hundred years ago, records colors by creating interference patterns inside photosensitive plate. provides great opportunity to demonstrate several fundamental concepts signal processing. Conversely, processing perspective enables us shed new light on technique. In our previous work [1], we analyzed spectra historical plates using own mathematical model. this paper, provide derivation model validate it experimentally. We highlight behaviors whose explanations were ignored physicists date. particular, show generated are fact distorted versions original spectra. also these distortions influenced thickness plate reflection coefficient reflective medium used photographs. verify with extensive experiments

Lippmann photography: its history and recent development

More than one hundred years ago Gabriel Lippmann recorded the first permanent colour photographs in France. His technique based on recorded light interference structures in an emulsion produced unique colour photographs. It is known as interferential photography or interference colour photography, as well as Lippmann photography. This type of direct colour photography was rather complicated, wh...

Time-Frequency Signal Processing: A Statistical Perspective

Time-frequency methods are capable of analyzing and/or processing nonstationary signals and systems in an intuitively appealing and physically meaningful manner. This tutorial paper presents an overview of some time-frequency methods for the analysis and processing of nonstationary random signals, with emphasis placed on time-varying power spectra and techniques for signal estimation and detect...

Mr Tagging from a Signal Processing Perspective

Although magnetic resonance (MR) tagging has been shown to be a useful tool in myocardial motion quantification, its clinical utilization is limited as current available methods generally either lack computational speed or require extensive user intervention. Recently, the harmonic phase imaging (HARP) technique has been proposed to look at the phase information of the tagged images [1], [2]. H...

A Signal Processing Perspective of Financial Engineering

Financial engineering and electrical engineering are seemingly different areas that share strong underlying connections. Both areas rely on statistical analysis and modeling of systems; either modeling the financial markets or modeling, say, wireless communication channels. Having a model of reality allows us to make predictions and to optimize the strategies. It is as important to optimize our...

The Ensemble Kalman Filter: A Signal Processing Perspective

The ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) is a Monte Carlo based implementation of the Kalman filter (KF) for extremely high-dimensional, possibly nonlinear and non-Gaussian state estimation problems. Its ability to handle state dimensions in the order of millions has made the EnKF a popular algorithm in different geoscientific disciplines. Despite a similarly vital need for scalable algorithms in sign...
